Wednesday, 13 July

Breakfast consisted of boiled eggs today – by far the most filling one so far. We motored to a little bay where we swam and enjoyed the sun. It was noticeably warmed today and I decided to make the most of it by burrowing heavily into my book (The Lost Symbol) on the top deck.

I also tried my first dive from the roof of the boat, by the end of the week I want to have jumped off the top rail diving into the water! Lunch was enjoyable – mashed potatoes with vegetables and a nice fillet of pork in a crumbed batter.

We docked around 3pm into Bol, on the island of Brac. The town is rather famous as it was the first town on the Brac coastline, but more notably, has a uniquely shaped pebble beach which attracts large numbers of tourists.

We swam here and enjoy the beach, before Dylan and I headed back into town looking for a supermarket for our tuna rolls! We were summoned to a restaurant a 10 min walk away but a sign on the water front and decided to scope it out in search of our one off crayfish super meal! We were pleasantly surprised when we eventually found the restaurant called Mendula, a small family run restaurant that grilled fresh seafood. We feasted on salads, breads, blue fish in a rich garlic sauce, scampari parisianart tartesauce and washed it down with a pint of Veliko Toceno and Malo toceno. For desert I had a caramel tart with caramel ice cream which completed a great meal. The bill came to 26AUD each!

We had fulfilled out dreams of finding a nice restaurant that had character, style and great food. Not to mention the view from my seat overlooking the whole bay! As we couldn’t pay by card surprisingly, our waited said “No problem, you can pay tomorrow if you don’t have enough!”

After a good 3 hours of good food and conversation we headed back to the boat to join the crew for a few drinks and card games, before heading out to a different port-side club.

We saw a girlfriend throw glasses and punches at the bouncers head; then her boyfriend get knocked out by them, underage Nordic sailing kids dancing on the dance floor, a rather terrible dj attempting to spin some house music, and a nice conversation with a Bulgarian lady about movies and Shakespeare. All this before I hit the bunk around 3am!
