Tuesday, 16 August

There was the funniest snorer in the dorm last night. It was so disturbing that I got up and left for a good 30 mins and tried to sleep in the couch before heading back to bed! I wasn’t the only struggling to sleep either – it seemed the majority of people were awake. It wasn’t a loud snore; it was more of a cringing moan like he was in a bad dream the whole night!

Today was the day my travelling journey would come to an end, and my exchange in Albuquerque would begin. I was so excited, but also sad to be hanging up the travelling boots (on for a few months!). I was looking forward to finally having a base and not living out of my back pack.

I got up at 7.30 and cooked probably the best breakfast of the week. 4 boiled eggs, fresh toast, some bacon and the rest of the bean salad from the previous night. I feel like I know how to cook now. It’s quite hilarious when you see the food the other travelers cook (ranging from deep fried chicken wings from the freezer, to bought pizza and terrible looking cereal!). Thanks mum for teaching me!

I shaved off my goatee and mustache, as I didn’t want to freak out my host family in New Mexico when I arrived later that day.

I had a quick walk to the subway station before I took a train to the Ronald Regan National Airport. It was only 15 mins away.

Obviously DC is a massive business location for men and women because it was so easy to get to the airport. If only Perth could do something similar. It took me 20 mins on the tube.

I was flying with Frontier Airline and they provide cookies and drinks on the flight. Thankfully they had some left over so I managed to score a few more choc chip cookies. They were up there with subway cookies!I wasn't sure if I could bring food and drinks onto the plane so I played it safe and went without any lunch. The cookies saved me though!

I flew into Omaha on the way to Denver, where I wandered around the airport before jumping on the same plane and taking off again. In Denver I boarded a one hour flight to Albuquerque, which was delayed by over an hour.

It was a great feeling flying into Abq after so many days traveling and so much preparation. The town looked small from the air. It was nothing compared to NY, and I liked that.

Skailar and Catherine picked me up for the airport and we drove to their place in the suburbs. I met Paul, the husband and we ate a great dinner prepared by Catherine. I slipped into the fold out couch double bed... how nice it was to be in a home again and being able to stretch out on the mattress! I was to excited to explore the town with the family the next day I didn't get to sleep till very late. The two dogs snoring close by didn't help either!!!
