We headed off to the train station to drop Maya as she was going for the day+night with a close friend. I survived the drive there. The biggest challenge was yet to come.
Abby, Lucas and I headed to Venice Beach, in search of the infamous Muscle beach and to take a picture working out on the gym. It was a little stressful driving there – we had some close calls, more so because the free ways we were taking were the busiest and most hectic we’d driven on so far. I’ll claim it anyway.
The beach was similar to the one yesterday – there were some good waves and we set up next to the pier. I ended up falling asleep in the warming sun rays, not before I took some waves on the body-board.
We packed up our gear around 2, our destination was Malibu!
It was a great drive north along the coast. Once we made it to Malibu it was easy to see why it was such a famous break. There were near perfect right-handers that were being ridden for over 100 meters to the right. It was quite a sight.
We drove back to the house (took 1.5hours to get across LA down town to Long beach). Had a quick meal of the left overs from the previous nights dinner and changed ready for a night at Universal Studios.
It took around an hour and a half to get there, we were stuck again in the infamous traffic for most parts of it. The theme night at Universal Studios was Halloween night; a number of set take off from the popular US produced movies (Hostel, The Mummy ect).
It was a great night with lots of jumps and laughs as well. We ended up queuing for around 4 hours of the 4 rides, and didn’t leave until 1.30am. I took the goPro on all the ‘rides’ so im looking forward to checking out the footage.
We were starving for food and we found a burger place called “Fatburger” close by on the way back. I ate a 8oz patty. It was just what I needed.
There must have been some sort of accident on the freeway we needed to take – it was 2.30am in the morning and all we could see were red lights! It was going to be a long, slow trip home… Even at 3.15am we were still held up by the blockage… I couldn’t work out what so many people were doing at this hour to be needing the freeway! Anyway, Abby did a great job of driving. Thankfully it’s an automatic.
One thing I did enjoy, along with the palm trees, were the eucalyptus trees that seemed to be in abundance around LA. It reminded me of home and all of there were large and healthy. They looked good in the city landscape. It was one epic journey home. After a number of detours and waiting at traffic lights as the freeways weren’t in open, we finally made it home at 4.15am…
