We all had a rather sloppy, miserable start, only slightly improved by the gradually changing weather. We paid for the hostel, said our thank you’s and jumped on the ferry to the south side of the lake.
We changed hostels – we booked in at Unity Hostel, which is the one Katy and Mon stayed in last year. The manger Christina (and her kid) were exceptional value. They were booked out early in the week; hence we stayed at Hullum Hostel. We figured a couple of nights is better than none at all.
Katy and Chris caught the train from the dock. James and I walked the 5km to the hostel (would have had to wait 40 mins for the train). Along the way we discovered a great go-kart track and the challenge was issued. It was accepted without any thought.
It was a tight track with
very high-powered go-karts. I filmed it all with the goPro and will make a movie of it later. We had so much fun. It was all unexpected. It’s the unexpected events that make travelling so rewarding. It cost us just over 20 aud for 10 mins of racing, far cheaper than any go-kart place back home.
We walked for a few mins before accidently coming across the hostel, we thought we had another 10 min walk ahead of us. The day was getting better as time ticked over!
Katy wasn’t wrong either, Christina and her child were both very friendly and straight away made us feel at home. We unpacked before walking around the corner to the local swimming spot on the lake.
James and I shared a largo, which was disgusting. But we still ate it. Fried some bread in oil, and put some cream and cheese ontop and that is what I ate… The Hungarians have a terrible approach to healthy and filling food, instead opting for many fried and pastry options to fill their bulging bellies.
After the swimming we headed to a restaurant that James and I passed on the way – it had chickens, duck and pigs being spit roasted over an open fire. This is something I will recreate when I am back in perth!
I order half a duck, and enjoyed the juices and marinade that was sweet and delicious.
We headed back and had a few drinks before catching the 10.30pm train to Seofok- the party area of the lake.
It was like the strip from the Gold Coast, although longer with more clubs and food outlets. We found a quality cocktail bar and had long island ice teas to really quickstart the night.
We danced our way through 3 clubs, killing time until the first train back at 4.30am. It was a fun night; James and I having a good laugh on the dancefloor with some below average dancing.
The train ride home was hard, I was still buzzing from a redbull+vodka, but we made it home around 5.30am and finally made it to bed. It was a long night, but it had to be done. I would be solo again soon and can do the 10pm early nights as much as I want!
