Saturday, 30 July

The weather improved over night, and I could see stars as Katy and I walked in the dark to the lookout tower. There was a band of cloud on the horizon, so it took an hour or so before the sun popped out from the clouds. It was very warming and we enjoyed the rays of light before heading back for breakfast.

We cooked a great amount of scrambled eggs with paprika, tomatoes, spicy salami and fresh local eggs. It was a great meal to start the day.

I skyped the family; it was great to talk and hear their news. Harry was playing 1’s and was making me very jealous. Georgie was heading off with Lee to the ND med ball while dad was still playing golf.

I snuck back to bed and pulled down the blind fold, inserted the ear plugs and had a deep 2 hour sleep.

We hired some bikes from the hostel and headed to a castle 15km south. We were distracted and came across a little church building deep in the forest on the side of the ancient volcano. We also saw a church that was built from the unique rocks – there were only two in the world.

We enjoyed the ride down the muddy, slippery hill before continuing on. We came across a town, which had markets, and stalls selling bits and bobs and decided to stop here for a little while to fill or stomachs.

James and I had a home made sweet pasty bread thingo… couldn’t really read what it was, except it tasted awesome.

I also found some nice ice-cream.

We came across the wine section, there were 11 booths. I set the challenge, James accepted and Chris joined in. Katy did every 3rd. We had sweet, dry white wine. It was the start of a good afternoon.

The ride home was a blur, James and I raced each other. I may have come off along the way.

Goulash was being served for dinner, it was the best meal of the stay at Hullum hostel. May have had 3 bowls it was that tasty!

We played some very good card games and never-ever and would-you-rather, before heading off for a much needed sleep!
